RE: Transmission problems from towing Honda's?

I think trop-a-cal's answer might be the reason for some failures. You have to get the steps as well as the procedure in the right order. You do not run it in drive for three minutes then shift to neutral and turn it off. Disaster ahead!
You run through the Honda gears, then shift from drive to neutral and THEN let the engine run for three minutes (at least) Then simply turn the switch off. This lets the transmission fluid circulate and warm up. It takes about 6 hours for the fluid to drain back down. At about 3 hours of towing, we do the procedure again. We have towed all around the nation and have never had a problem with the transmission on our 03 Element

RE: Camping a 43' RV in National Parks

Trailer Village at Grand Canyon will allow big rigs. Sites are pull through and we have had plenty of room for big rigs.
Glacier has small sites - might be tough for a rig your size
Yellowstone > have only stayed at Fishing Bridge. There is space for big rigs, but getting them parked w/o scratching the rig is something of a challenge

RE: Public shooting ranges w/full autos-Shenendoah NP area

With the tremendous price jump of ammunition it will take a very short time to run up a huge ticket when you flip the switch on something like a Mac 10 or such.

Well over 100, but most of that was an extended stay as hosts in Custer State Park

RE: Motorhome stuck in mud

ditto on not using kitty litter. Talk about red Georgia clay, that stuff is made from Georgia koalin and is as sticky as red clay and slicker than owl poop. I have had trucks stuck in 1 inch of kaolin on an asphalt road.
Good luck on whatever your final decision to try is.

RE: 3M Mask

I have tried microfiber cloths, wax, polish, soap, soft scrub, armoral (sp?), drier sheets and cold water. Several of these things remove the bugs, but Ii have found nothing that will remove the dull, cloudy look left where the bug impacted. Black paint and clearcoat under the film.

RE: Custer State Park

Game Lodge, Grace Coolidge, Legion Lake and Blue Bell all have regular visitors of buffalo and deer. Center Lake has a population of mountain lions in the area and they are seen on the creek between Center Lake and highway 16a toward Grace Coolidge.
Over all, Gamelodge has the most buffs. More sheep around Coolidge.
All the CGs in the park have things to recommend them. You can't go wrong with any choice - except those with no electric.

RE: Cherokee, NC RV resorts

We stay at Happy Holidays, just up the street from Harrahs. Pool, security, fishing stream and full hookups. Prices for all of Cherokee area has gone up in the past couple of years. We just continue on over the mountain to Pigeon Forge now
Used to stay at KOA, but got tired of very small, crowded sites. The few sites directly across from the office are Ok, but the last time we reserved one of those, some of the help that spoke very little English insisted the site was reserved. I tried to explain it was reserved BY ME. Ended up at a terrible site further back in the park - the site we had reserved sat empty all weekend. Until I can deal with someone who speaks the language, I do not go back there.

RE: Avoiding Atlanta

There is paving going on at night and on weekends currently on the Downtown Connector. BAD traffic. Check with DOT web site before you decide to go through town - and I usually tell everyone to go straight through.

Stay someplace else then drive up for the view. Not for towing up, certainly not for MH and such sized vehicles.

RE: Firewood

Regarding the seizure of fire wood - I have often wondered about this. If some camper comes in with suspect wood and the ranger or whomever decides it is contaminated, then why seize it? Would it not make more sense to put it on the fire immediately and destroy any of the creepie crawlies that lurk under the bark than to haul the wood so some shed and store it and let these creatures crawl out from the bark and escape?
Or maybe I don't know what happens to the seized wood. What do the authorities do with this suspect fuel?

Wow, Frank can recognize a mountain at first sight!
Bugs53> we live just down the road from the Gorge. Drive slow, we are supposed to get soaked between now and the weekend. Bring warm clothes as well. Been getting pretty cold at night - of course it is nothing like the cold 'out west' where the mountains don't have trees on top. LMAO!

No current information, but each time that places changes hands it goes further down the tube. We travel that way often and will drive further rather than stay there.

RE: Invasive species - any where you live ?

"I saw 'invasive species' and my first thought was kudzu. Then I figured out what you were looking for. "
Kudzu is indeed an invasive species of plant. That, along with privet hedge is trying to take over Georgia.
Fire ants have already got a strong take-over foothold established.
Mention kudzu in the West and they sort of give you that "what is this guy talking about?" look. They come south and soon discover.
